Persecution Today, the Kachin of Myanmar

The Individuals of Kachin State

Those people who are fighters in the trenches, literally or otherwise, will see my record about Kachin State anywhere from moderately to wildly inaccurate and unrepresentative of the true situation . I’ve Never been to Kachin State, or Myanmar, or even any of the neighboring nations of South East Asia. I’ve not ever seen the atrocities of the fighting men of all Burma (Myanmar today). I have never experienced anything similar to the life span of this mountain people struggling for their presence because a public there. I’m simply an observer from afar, and apologize up front for my dependence on meager and probably inadequate sources of information.

I know that there really are the theological types who are ราชภัฏ of the whole premise of persecution in Kachin because, as will be stated, even of what goes on from north east Burma is political and has apparently nothing to do with the church.

I imagine a number of that does work. In addition, I imagine your own family has people such as that, as well as your own church and your area. However, if the blood starts to spatter on the sidewalks of our towns here, it won’t be easy for all of us to dismiss the truth of this trauma that’s occurring. And even if 9 out 10 of the people falling aren’t your spiritual brothers, then I am certain you won’t be able to look on the spectacle without terror satisfying your heart, since you rush to get a way to stop the bloodbath, and to rescue your family and your neighbors, even the others of them.

I ask you view Kachin State during that lensthe lens of neighbor-loving, massacre-avoidance, personal catastrophe, like it were your own person influenced, and allow God to be the judge who knew Him and who didn’t. Kachin State can be a horrible tragedy and needs Christian concern and it takes it today, now.

I’ve discovered within this research a mystery, a lot of history, and also an opportunity for God’s people to react.

I. The Mystery.

There are probably many unsolved puzzles concerning the Kachin. However, the one that bothers me the most as of this writing, isthe reason why am I just now hearing about the Kachin people? Where have I been all of this time around when their history has been developing? I have caused the persecuted in 1 manner or the other for nearly 30 decades. All these are largely a Christian folks. Why didn’t I know about these?

And why has the press and large ignored the slaughter in places like Nigeria, Kenya, the Philippines? What things to do with American interests not being served with helping folks that live up from the mountains of a foreign country? No oil wells? No serious political ties?

Have you ever been aware about these folks? Allow me to give out just a little bit of information I managed to glean from the ever-present internet.

II. Some History.

The Kachin people pass quite a few distinct names. One-million Kachin live there, instead of only 150,000 from China.

Who are they? (Wikipedia)

But perhaps not all who are living at Kachin State (northeastern-most country of Burma) are Kachin. Though some desire to call each one of these residents of this state,”Kachin”, the Kachin tribe does not prefer such a designation. That’s where”Jinghpaw” comes into playwith. “Jingphaw Wunpawng” means all the residents of this state, where as Jingphaw used alone refers solely to ethnic Kachins.

Confused yet? There’s more. Back in Kachin State individuals have found 2 ways to categorize the many groups. In 1 form, you just take all the classes which have overlapping lands and similar skills, and you call them one people. In still another form, you move by speech just. Very intricate. And the Jingpo understand who they are aside from the efforts of outsiders to tell them.

Thing is, though, most of the tribes stem from the identical basic background, despite all the posturing and self-identifying of those groups. We’ll leave it at this. Generally , there is this set of men and women who live in Kachin State with similar language, ways, and sometimes even religion. We’ll call them Kachins to the others of this report.

Even the Kachin people can be traced back to many more than 100 years. They lived about the Tibetan plateau, and perhaps in Mongolia before this, and worked their way south with their present location, China’s province of Yunnan, and Burma.
